How to set up your 3D CAD files for Objet parts
Accepted file types
When ordering Objet parts, the file types we can accept are:
STL file setup instructions for SolidWorks and ProE
The Objet machine requires “.stl” files so the preferred file type is “.stl” because the conversion is already done but if “.stl” files are received, the customer is then responsible for how triangulated the part is because of the configuration settings. See examples showing the preferred configuration settings. The “chord height” and “angle” are what control the smoothness of the part but the tighter the settings, the larger the file.
Step / Iges file setup instructions for SolidWorks and ProE
Other file type options are native ProE or SolidWorks files followed by the “parasolid” file type then either “step or iges”. For CNC parts the preferred file type is “parasolid” or the native programs of ProE or SolidWorks, no “.stl” files. If sending “step” or “iges” files from ProE, do not include surfaces, (see example). If sending “step” or “iges” files from SolidWorks do not include 3d wireframe, (see example).
